Playing God in The Oxford Mystery Plays, July 2017
Seth Wilson
Welcome! My name is Seth Wilson, and this is my professional website. Here, you can learn a little bit more about what I'm up to, and get in touch if you're interested in chatting or working on a project together. Below, I've divided my interests into some broad categories.
Academics
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and theatre from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Arts in theatre history and practice from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. in theatre and performance studies from the University of Georgia. My work deals broadly with performance, both onstage and off, engaging with gender, celebrity, and politics. I have a particular focus on the long eighteenth century in Europe and the Americas, and further interests in sports as performance and philosophical aesthetics. I have taught at the University of Illinois, the University of Georgia, and Stephen F. Austin State University. In 2017, I was one of the administrators of the UGA at Oxford Program, running a six-week study-abroad program and studying at Trinity College there.
Theatre and Creative Work
One of my cornerstone beliefs, however, is that practice is essential to the work of a scholar. As such, I try to spend as much time in the rehearsal room as the library. I am a director, dramaturg, actor, comedian, and general entertainer/ham.
Trivia
If you're the type of person who watches TV quiz shows, you might recognize me from Jeopardy! In the fall of 2016, I was lucky enough to win 12 episodes of the venerable game show. I’ve since been back twice, to play in the 2017 Tournament of Champions and the All-Star Team tournament. You can see a video of the highlights from my run here.
Life Outside of Work
In the few moments I have outside of work, I am an avid fan of Georgia football.
